Business Group, with P4ESC, Expresses Concerns with Proposed ESRD Legislation Enacting Chronic Condition Parity Mandate on Employers

As part of the Partnership for Employer-Sponsored Coverage (P4ESC), the Business Group expressed concerns to House and Senate leadership regarding newly proposed legislation that would alter the way employers provided dialysis coverage for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and implement a vague new parity requirement on employer-provided coverage for chronic conditions.

In response to new legislation introduced in both chambers of Congress, the Business Group and P4ESC sent letters to House and Senate leaders expressing concerns with the proposed legislation. The Business Group and P4ESC reaffirmed employers’ commitment to their obligations under the Medicare Secondary Payer Act for ESRD patients and their continued efforts to provide strong health plan benefits to their employees and their families. The letters expressed the Business Group and P4ESC’s concerns that the bill would establish a coverage mandate for employers with vague parity requirements that would create confusion, spur wasteful spending and disputes, reduce quality, and increase costs to employees and plans.
